Cox’s Bazar jetty work continues — Saint Martin trips may not start before 5–6 November

সেন্ট মার্টিন দ্বীপের ফিরোজা জল ও বালুকা বেলা—মৌসুমি ভ্রমণের দৃশ্য

Key points

  • No ships on 1 Nov; sailings hoped 5–6 Nov.
  • Season to 15 Mar 2027; daily cap 3,500.
  • Tk 100 conservation fee.
  • Only approved vessels from Nuniachhara.
  • Verify latest overnight rule before booking.

Ropes on the Nuniachhara timber jetty, unfinished stairs, and no tourist ships on 1 November despite the season’s start. Dhaka Tribune reports clearances for the Cox’s Bazar–Saint Martin’s route were still incomplete. Locals hope regular sailings around 5 or 6 November.

Before you buy a ticket, match vessel approval, the daily cap, the conservation fee and the latest overnight rule—not just a “season open” headline. More travel notes: Travel, Lifestyle.

How long is the season, what’s the cap

Under Environment Ministry decisions, visits run through 15 March 2027. Daily arrivals are capped at 3,500, with a Tk 100 environmental fee per tourist. The higher cap cheers businesses and worries conservation voices.

Only government-approved vessels from the Nuniachhara BIWTA jetty in Cox’s Bazar—not Teknaf / Shah Porir Dwip / Ukhiya water routes, per local administration remarks in the press. Online registration / travel-pass systems were still being readied.

Why ships did not sail on 1 November

Cruise operators say Environment, Shipping, BIWTA route permits and district administration clearances must align. A few vessels were reported partly cleared; others wait. Saint Martin’s jetty is described as ready; Nuniachhara still needed stairs and pontoon repairs, with about Tk 7 crore of district-council works underway.

November overnight stays—read the latest notice

Media summaries of a 25 October directive describe day trips only in November, with overnight stays in December–January. A later 27 October notice has been reported as opening overnight earlier. Because those messages conflict, verify the latest ministry / district notice before hotel booking. We will not invent a yes.

What you must not do on the island

  • No night beach lighting, loud parties or barbecues
  • No collecting coral, shells, starfish, horseshoe crabs or seagrass
  • No entering keya forests or trading keya fruit
  • No motorcycles or jet skis on the beach
  • Avoid single-use plastics
  • Chera Dwip access remains restricted

The 3,500 cap is not a party licence. Coral is why people visit Saint Martin’s—damage shrinks future seasons.

Local livelihoods and your ticket

More than 200 stays and eateries prepare for a short earning window; Teknaf has hundreds of renovation applications. Delayed ships hurt incomes—but unsafe boarding is not the fix. Buy only approved vessels and ask where the conservation fee is collected.

Quick checks before you go

  • Is today’s sailing schedule actually cleared?
  • Is November overnight written into the current notice?
  • If the daily cap is full, do you have a backup date?
  • Are you packing to cut plastic?

One line: policy opened Saint Martin’s; jetties and clearances still decide when you actually sail—aim for 5–6 November readiness, not rushed unsafe boarding.
