Pulling down street banners does not stop mosquitoes. On 1 November 2026 the DGHS dengue bulletin (via national media) reported 8 deaths and 1,929 hospital admissions in 24 hours; year-to-date deaths 427. Entomologists quoted in Prothom Alo say major improvement before December is unlikely. November is still a water-emptying month.

Weekly home dengue prevention checklist
Aedes bites by day; breeding sites are often within metres of the house. Dengue prevention is not one spray—it is denying standing water. Pick a fixed weekly slot:
1) Roof and balcony
- Check tank lids
- Empty flower-pot saucers
- Flip or remove tires, buckets, bottle caps
- Empty AC/fridge drain bottles weekly
2) Bathroom and kitchen
- Do not leave spare buckets of water
- Wipe fridge drip trays
- Clear slow floor drains
3) Ground floor and neighbours
- Flag common-area drums to building management
- Report construction puddles
- Politely remind neighbours—mosquitoes ignore flat boundaries

Personal protection—second layer of dengue prevention
- Long sleeves where practical morning and dusk
- Nets for children and older adults
- Approved repellents—read labels, especially for children
- Do not self-start antibiotics for fever

When to seek care without delay
Clinicians tell media that timely care cuts death risk even when dengue prevention fails. Go to hospital/fever clinic—not a pharmacy counter—for:
- Severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting
- Bleeding signs
- Extreme weakness / near-fainting
- Low urine output, breathing difficulty
- New fever after a prior dengue illness—experts flag higher severity risk
Dhaka city corporations have discussed fever clinics—confirm local addresses from official notices; we do not invent clinic pins here.
Why dengue prevention still matters in November
Entomologist Kabirul Bashar told Prothom Alo that breeding from earlier rains can continue; dry weather does not instantly end transmission. Climate-linked humidity stretches the season. Treating November as “over” is a misread.
Vaccines are under long-term discussion; widespread dengue vaccination is not rolled out now, per state-minister remarks in national media. Today’s tools remain dengue prevention: empty water + early care.
Measles pressure—context only
DGHS/BSS also report heavy measles-symptom caseloads. Busy hospitals make home prevention even more valuable. Measles details belong in a separate piece.
Do this with neighbours
One clean flat next to an open rooftop drum helps little. Ask ward/building committees for weekly common-area checks. Schools and offices need the same list. Dengue prevention is social work, not solitary perfection.

Offices and schools
Ask managers for a weekly dengue prevention round on roofs, parking tires and canteen drums. Schools can clear pot saucers with parent-teacher help.
Pregnancy, children, older adults
Seek care early for fever. Nets and daytime sleeves add a layer. We do not set repellent brands or doses here—follow labels and clinicians.
What not to do
- Coil-only habits while water sits
- Self-starting antibiotics
- Ignoring fever after prior dengue
- Spreading unverified home remedies
- Stopping checks because “December will fix it”
A sample weekly rhythm
Saturday roof sweep, midweek drain check, Thursday neighbour reminder—keep that rhythm through November so dengue prevention becomes habit.

Bottom line: November dengue prevention means weekly water checks and fast clinical care—do not rest on December rumours.
